Following 72 hours of trial operation, the Xiong’an-Shijiazhuang 1000kV UHV AC power transmission and transformation project went online at 3 a.m. on June 4, marking that the first UHV transmission line providing power to the Xiong'an New Area enters into operation.

The project is a national key project for State Grid to practice the green development concept, upgrade infrastructure and serve the integrated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei as well as the Xiong'an New Area. The project constitutes a part of the world’s first UHV AC double-loop network, which also contains other completed UHV AC projects, such as the Xilin Gol League-Shandong project, the Mengxi-Tianjin South project and the Yuheng-Weifang project. Thanks to this project, the power supply reliability in both North China power grid and Beijing power grid has been further improved, with better clean energy consumption in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong. In addition, it also helps to protect our blue skies from pollution, achieve 100% clean power supply and ensure energy security in Xiong'an New Area.

The total investment reaches around 3.5 billion yuan. Approved by local government in July 2017 and constructed since March 2018, it is one of the first UHV projects benefiting from streamlined administration, with the management model in which headquarters makes plans and coordination and the provincial electric power companies are responsible for construction and management, while other subsidiaries provide technical support.

The Project Commissioning and Acceptance Committee decided that the commissioning of the equipment for the extension of Beijingxi and Shijiazhuang UHV substations must be completed and put into operation by the end of 2018. The overall system commissioning began on May 29, 2019, and the 11 test items under five categories were completed on May 31. On June 1, the project was put into trial operation. Next, State Grid UHV Construction Department will finish all remaining work, such as project conclusion, documents collection and project settlement.
