Overseas Projects

With advantages in technology, standard, management, human resources and brand influence and rich experience in being general contractor for international projects, State Grid has been actively promoting grid interconnectivity, power project contracting, electric engineering equipment export and international communication and cooperation. By now, State Grid has established offices or branches in more than 20 countries and regions including Ethiopia, Brazil, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey and the Lao PDR and expanded its power transmission and converting business to nearly 40 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, covering UHV, national backbone power grid, DC power transmission, mid and low voltage power distribution network and grid operation and maintenance with a number of successful financing projects in the form of BOT and PPP. A series of overseas projects with great influence have been put into construction or operation, including GDHA500kV power transmission and converting project in Ethiopia, second phase of Belo Monte ±800kV UHV convertor station project in Brazil, EETC 500kV DC power supply grid upgrade project in Egypt, Matiari-Lahore ±660kV DC power transmission project in Pakistan and Ethiopia-Kenya ±500kV DC grid integration project.

State Grid’s platform for international general contract has become the largest foreign project contractor of power transmission and converting in China, ranking 93rd among ENR top 250 international contractors in terms of the business revenue from the general contracting of international projects in 2017. It also got “AAA” in the credit rating of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCMB) and China International Contractors Association.

State Grid exports equipment to more than 80 countries with a volume of nearly 2.5 billion US Dollars from 2014 to 2017, including iron towers, conductors, transformers, circuit breakers, switches and control protection equipment, covering all major equipment used for primary and secondary power generation.
